The "site survey" utility in the phone is really useful. I didn't find it until yesterday. It reads levels real time from multiple access points so you can roam around and check things out.

It can be found @ options->wifi-connections->(menu)->wifi-diagnostics->(menu)->site survey-> menu/start.stop
