One advantage we have found is that with a widely distributed base of users (some are 300-400 miles apart) it gives a centralized way of administering devices. Imagine having to physically go to the desktop of hundreds of users...it wouldn't be pretty
....and you can avoid as much as possible the desktop environment and all the baggage that is associated with that.
