Does anyone know if RIM is working to fix this? Is there a workaround that avoids turning off this security feature?

This is also known as SPF or Sender Policy Framework. If the incoming server sees email coming from an invalid IP address for that domain, it rejects it. For more info, see SPF: A Sender Policy Framework to Prevent Email Forgery
