It's a bit of a device limitation and a network limitation. The 9630 will have EVDO Rev A, which supports VoIP to the handset. This means that all calls are treated like data connections (from the carriers view, not from a billing perspective). As a result, they can push multiple data streams down the line at any time, meaning you can get emails and other data usage while on the phone. As far as I know, Verizon Wireless has not yet activated this feature on their network, meaning that you will not have this capability on VZW. I am unsure about Sprint. However, once they do support this capability, they should be able to flick a switch and turn it on overnight for 9630 users.

The Bold and other GSM phones have had this capability because the carrier technology is different.
