I apologize if this has been covered already; I did not have time to read the entire thread, but one item caught my eye.

I recently moved from the 8100 to the 8320 on TMO. When making the purchase they offered me the "opportunity" to pay an additional $9.99 a month for the wifi service which I declined as it did not seem worth the cost. When I got home I was able to successfully connect to my network through wifi, and make and receive calls even though I had the "Mobile Network" turned off in the Manage Connections screen.

So unless I am mis-understanding the functionality of the connection manager, it seems possible to make calls through wifi without the additional TMO plan.
