If anything warranty... Should anything happen to your 8700c and your not a Cingular client you could be up a creek if you need a replacement. With Rogers if your within the one year device warranty you just call the data dept. and they'll send you a replacement device. FWIW the build quality of the 8700 is just awful. I'm on my third 8700 soon to be changing carriers and looking forward to the rugged appeal of the 7520 or 7250 for that matter.
