I called VZW and was told the phone must be active. I have tried the online updater and desktop Manager. Neither will update it. Anyone know a way w/out it being activated?

You can't, it's a new thing if the OS is 5.0 and your using DM 5, then the device MUST have active BlackBerry service.

So, the workarounds will come, I guess.

Try first doing the upgrade with DM v4.7
