Default Before I buy a Mac...

Please Login to Remove!

I'm looking at switching my office computer to a Mac from a PC, but the one stumbling block is my BlackBerry. I tested my BB on a MacBook Air (running Entourage 2008) and I encountered some synching problems; specifically, email I sent using Entourage did not show up as sent mail on my BlackBerry (it does when I use Outlook). the ISP I use to host my Microsoft Exchange Server service said there was nothing that could be done. This synching problem is a "known issue" and until a patch is issued, no fix is available. But I've been doing some digging and found some programs like PocketMac and I'm not sure if they fix this problem or not. Reading the post I referenced only makes me more confused. I appreciate any light you can shed on whether this synching issue can be worked out.

If you are on an Exchange Server then I assume you are synching wirelessly using the BES. I do not think PocketMac will help because my understanding is that it is used to synch over USB. I suppose it is possible to do both (synch wirelessly and over USB), but it seems to me it could create problems. I know that there used to be an issue that synching using Desktop Manager broke wireless synch (not sure if that is still the case).

Another option is to install Parallels or VMWare Fusion and run Outlook on the Mac. Presumably , your ISP which hosts your Exchange Server gives you Outlook, so the only cost is Parallels or VM Ware. Both have free trials. I use Parallels because I find it integrates slightly better with the Mac OS, but they are similar. Of course, even though I have done exactly what I just suggested, I find myself using Entourage almost exclusively because it is native to the Mac and does not require me to start Parallels, then Outlook. I tend to run Outlook only when I want to archive emails into my PST folder because Entourage (as I am sure you are aware) cannot use PSTs.

I am on BES.

Is it just Entourage 2008 that has this problem? Does Entourage 2004 sync better than 2008?

It was my understanding that Pocketmac does not support '08. I hope I am wrong as I would love to start using it.

Thanks for the info.

Has anyone else experienced the same synching issue with Entourage 2008 and BlackBerry? Has anyone found a workaround?
