Is RIMM better off scratching the 4.5 os?
Please Login to Remove!
For bu$ine$$ purposes RIMM shouldn't release this OS (4.50) it will make for example the 83XX series to close, to new and too refreshed ... at least with that upgrade anyone can hold buying the BOLD for a couple of months...
The BOLD is a new direction everything before that should stay as it is now... not a popular decision... I know that everybody think that i am for saying this...

In answer to your question...
No.
The Blackberry Bold will have OS 4.6 so your question is somewhat pointless.

**This is my opinion and no way is based on any facts, just what i have seen**
I think 4.5 is going to be the "end" of the updates for the 81/83/88 BBs.
Here's why:
OS 4.6 is basically designed for the higher res, larger screen Bold.
It is built for a device that has a completely new and faster processor
The UI and GI will "undermine" the developers of OS 4.6 and higher, as it will just not "pop" off the screen like on the Bold, from all the pics/vids of it i have seen of the Bold.
The Bold in itself, is a "revolutionary" device in the RIM market, being the "first" available 3g Blackberry (US available anyway), OS memory AND Internal media memory, basically a completely new device.
I also don't think that it would be wise for RIM to just trash 4.5, as it will more than likely INCREASE the sales of newer BBs, as i feel the 4.5 "touches" the capabilities of the device.
I know that when i loaded up my first version of the beta, it made me want the Bold WAY more than i already did.
Take this as you will, as it is my personal opinion.

well since 4.3.2 (which is 4.6) was already in development BEFORE the 9000 launches i do not see this as accurate. 4.5 (was 4.3.1) is the end of the 87xx series devices. 4.6 will likely be the end of the 88xx series devices. (Anyone else notice that the 9000 replaced the 88xx device on the splash page on blackberry.com?) I would say that the pearl will end sometime before 5.0, while the curve devices (remember the 8330 JUST launched) will end sometime shortly after 5.0

You make some damn good points, which i actually didn't consider..
either way, i'm most definitely getting a Bold.
(and i'm keeping a Curve as well)
I was not really basing my opinions on fact, but damn, you are making me change my opinion.. I didn't really take into consideration that 4.3.2 was actually 4.6, although i should have figured that out on my own.
Another thing i don't get, why the 8800 and 8100 were never updated to 4.2.2, and they're skipping that and going directly to 4.5.0, from 4.2.1, can you give some reasoning behind that, as i can't see how they would skip that..to me, it seemed like they were trying to "phase" those 2 devices out.

well remember, 4.3.1 = 4.5, so they are going from 4.1 to 4.3.1 in all actuality. Just like the 4.2 devices are going from that to 4.3.1. Not sure the reasoning behind it, but could be since those OS's didnt enable any additional features (other than media card support) or at least no MAJOR features, it wasnt necessary to do the update. 4.3+ enables other features on the phone that were not available previously.

Ok, 1 more for ya...
All the newer BBs, 8110/20/30 and the 8330, come with 4.3.0 What is that equivalent to, and are they going to be updated to 4.3.1/4.5, or is that going to be similar to the 8100/8800 getting skipped, as the 4.3.0 has the options of 4.3.1/4.5?
