To save memory, you would probably bb key close on each app. Instead, just hold the escape key. It works on most apps (excluding BrickBreaker and Google Maps and some others).

Sorry, but pressing the End or Escape key is not always a good thing as it can leave applications running in the background that may use memory and/or data.

If you truly don't want an application to be running, it's best to use Close or Exit.

Your tip may save time, but it may not save money.

Ditto to what Juwaack stated. The escape key usually just puts the current application in the background as it takes you to your home screen. It will not save you money, especially if you are not on an unlimited data plan.

To test your theory out, press the escape key to "close" the application as you say, and then press Right Alt + Escape and see if it shows with the running programs.

vmladenov, there are hundreds of posts here to contradict that and in fact state doing just that will cause too many apps running in the background and cause slow and poor performance.

I just went to the browser, went to google.com searched for blackberry forums, pressed the escape key, it took me back to my home page. I went back into the browser and guess what?!?!

I was still in the google results page. It did not close the application, just moved it to the background.

From the results page, I pressed menu > close, went back into the browser and guess what?!?!

It loaded up to my homepage. Meaning it closed the application.

Read the posts, all three were perfectly clear as to what we are talking about.

Pressing escape does not close the app, it places the application running to the background, and continues to use processor time and effort.

Do so, can actually reduce your memory as an active browser running in the background, say on a weather radar site, would continue to refresh with images, etc., further degrading your BB processor speed, and reducing the file free in the memory.

Press ALT key and Escape key at the same time and see whats running,the only thing that should show is,browser,phone,home,gmail(that's what I use)and message icon.. if an application has never been closed out it will show up...this means its still running in the background!

I think you are missing the original poster's most salient point: press AND HOLD the escape key.

I've done this on many apps and it does indeed close the app. Try it yourself on the BB browser. If you press the escape key it will bring you back to the previous screen and the browser will still be running , but if you press AND HOLD the escape key it will close the app.

True, holding the Escape key will close the browser - but doing that will NOT close 3rd party applications.

It's very hit-or-miss and all depends on how the 3rd party app was written. I have lots of 3rd party apps and about half of them will close with this method. So unless you are totally positive it's going to close the app it is better to close the app directly (MENU/CLOSE or MENU/EXIT or whatever method the app requires).

i think if we have all become so lazy to move our thumbs 1/2 an in to the menu button>exit ... then blackberrys have won heh. Dont let technology make you lazy, just hit exit!

Nevermind, found the answer in an old post. I hit Alt + BB button, then hit Switch Applications and there is a window showing everything thats running. Tried both ways with PocketDay, unless I actually hit "close" or "exit" it's still runs in the background. I always "close" programs, takes a second or two longer, but my battery life is so much better then my friends who dont.
