Cool bbLocal: Free Google Local Clone for Blackberry!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

We have released a new Google Local clone for the Blackberry platform. I'm pretty sure you know when Google launched Google Local Mobile they didn't offer it for the Blackberry so we did something about it. bbLocal contains all the same features as Google Local but we have added to it with our own Business Directory, where you will be able to see business and services placed right on the map. Highlight a business and you can click on more info for additional contact and background information.

The OTA download site is: http://mobile.bblocal.com

or

Desktop Manager install: http://www.bblocal.com/downloads/bbLocalAll.zip

Screenshots and more information can be found on our website at http://www.bblocal.com

One downside is that we had to limit bbLocal to certain cities to make bbLocal run faster. We currently have 16 cities in US and Canada but plan on adding more in the future.

Please let us know if you have any feedback ...

What are the 16 cities you support? I didn't see anything on your website.

Here's the list:

Canada
Ottawa
Toronto
Montreal
Vancouver

USA
New York
Chicago
San Francisco
Washington
Houston
Boston
Miami
Philadelphia
Seattle
Los Angeles
Dallas-Fort Worth

If you live near one of these metropolitan areas then you still may be able to get your area. I think we put a radius of 50-100 miles.

Until you expand your coverage, I can't use it except for trips to those areas. I live at DisneyWorld, must be some demand to be able to find the closest "bar" to Spaceship Earth ;)

Honestly, to compete with people like HelloWorld or I can just go direct to Google Maps on my 8700 and it works pretty good too, but the interface could definately be better for a BB.

Our goal is to have all cities with a pro sports team to be listed, should be by the beginning of the new year. We just wanted to release the program so people can download it and maybe catch a few bugs that we haven't found.

Anyways you can install bbLocal now because it automatically checks for city updates. So there's no need to reinstall the program when a new city is updated.

So then you would be adding Tampa(70 mi) & Orlando (20 mi) which would put me within the radius?

Hey bblocal website admin, you have a broken link for the OTA BES version. I just tried to download it and it's a broken link. Here's the link that's from your site.

http://mobile.bblocal.com/bbLocalBES.jad

From the previous post, it appears both links are broken for OTA. Please fix so we can download via OTA

are you referring to the links working, if so, it's still no go for the BES version. The local version is working but no BES.

Yes, www.freek.ca totally supports bbLocal. however if you're upset that your city ain't on the list and you're not the patient type, then get HelloWorld and start googling

We'll be adding more cities and attractions in the near future.

Dan

Anyone get this working on TMobile with BES? It says to check my TCN settings. I have wap.voicestream.com in there already.

EDIT: Sorry, meant TCP settings.
