Default Unable to start HH config manager

Please Login to Remove!

We are testing BES 4.0 (SP3 HF3) and are unable to start the handheld connection manager.
The error I'm getting is Database login failed for user "BESMgr" please try again.

we are using an external SQL Server (listening on port 1137) and an SQL-user.
We do have TCP-connections enabled. Made registry settings to set a non-default port.
when looking at the SQL server we do see the account logging in.

All other services (and Blackberry manager) are working fine.
Log file says:
COM Error 0x80004005 in ConnectionItem::ConnectToDB() - [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. - Unspecified error

It appears that the BESMgr account does not have the required permissions to the BESMgmt database on the remote SQL server. Is the BESMgr account able to launch the BM console without error or are you using a different account for the BM?

BM is working fine.

When using the profiler on the SQL machine we do see successful logins for this user/database when starting HH manager.

What's the ping stats for this remote SQL server?
Have you rechecked your ODBC setup? Have you setup any connection restrictions for the SQL server?
Very confusing....if the BM starts fine without error, so should the HH manager, unless it expects to see port 1433, and is not aware of port 1137....just thinking out loud.

Yeah, That's what I'm thinking. But I checked ODBC, did a connection test (works). SQL Machine is reachable (Ping <1ms)
Strange thing is that i do see some successfull logins on the SQL Server (and no failed ones) when starting the HH manager....

I'll be testing some more and keep you informed.

Try switching to Windows (trusted) authentication instead of SQL and see if it makes a difference.

The switch from SLQ-auth to windows auth was also not working.
I've run a network capture on the BES server and I still see the HH client talking on port 1433 (default SQL Port),
However we are running SQL on a different port.
I've change the setting in ODBC (Connection test succes), changed registry (HKCU\software\research in motion\blackberry enterprise server\database\port and HKLM\\software\research in motion\blackberry enterprise server\database\port)

Are there any more places I need to change the port ?

I have things worked out. I installed MSDE on the local machine. changed the BES database to the local Database and everything worked.
Now I can start the Handheld config manager and change the connection to another server.
Switched back to our SQLserver and everything works fine.

It seems silly that you cant start an application because there is a setting wrong and you have to change that setting in the application.... Reminds me of a chicken and an egg.

So....you can now connect to same SQL database that you couldn't connect to before?

Yep, without any problems.
I only needed access to the local SQL server once (to start the program) and then i could change the settings to another SQL Server. (and remove MSDE)
It is working fine now.
