Default unlocked pearl problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I have an unlocked Pearl 8100 that I bought from a UK seller on ebay.
I have put in my Irish O2 3G simcard, but I can't dial numbers without using
the 00353 international code, is there a way to sort this out?

Smart dialing
About smart dialing
You can change smart-dialing options to specify a default country code and area code for phone numbers. If you specify a default country
code and area code, when you make calls, you only need to dial a country code and area code when the codes differ from the codes that
you specified in the smart-dialing options.
In the smart-dialing options, you can also specify the main phone number for an organization that you call frequently. If you specify a
phone number for an organization, you can call a contact at the organization quickly by dialing the contact's extension only. Likewise,
when you add a contact from the organization to your address book, you only need to type the contact's extension.
Set the default country code and area code
1. In the phone, press the Menu key.
2. Click Options.
3. Click Smart Dialing.
4. Set the Country Code and Area Code fields.

Have followed ZombieBerries advice, but when I key in, say, 0719100, the 'phone still dials 00353719000. In other words it is still (presumably) roaming. How do I get it to behave like a normal Irish 'phone? I never had this problem with my previous prehistoric blackberry!

Your country code should be +353 (Ireland) and National number length should be set to 5 or 7 (I know in 2009 Ireland made some changes to their calling system) Just not sure how it works now(with respect to dialing). For example, in Rathmore if it was +353 64 5xxxx it would be changed to this +353 64 775xxxx

Hope that helps.

Sorry tsac! I merely meant a 'phone that will dial a local number without having to add the international code. In other words how do I get my pearl to work as if it had been originally purchased in Ireland?

I think we all have suggested the country code is wrong or missing.
I would try again. One question, are you sure the BB is a 8100 ?
Everything I read shows it is possible to set the country code to allow it to be the default.

Yes, the BB is definately an 8100. I have set the country code to +353 in smart dialling. What I don't understand is this; when I key in, say, 071916000, the 'phone dials 0035371916000. Does this mean that I am roaming, at great expense, or that I am dialling a local number at local rates? I must seem a bit of an idiot, but I have never had this problem with any other unlocked 'phone
