Do I Need to Update Service Book?

I have a 7130e, using BIS on Verizon for about a month. I have been working with a VZW tech since yesterday on a problem with email delivery.
While talking with her yesterday she kept talking about resending the Service Book but couldn't make it happen. Now that it appears the service is back up and running I'm wondering if I need to do the update myself.
As a relative newcomer to BB and BIS, can someone explain what the Service Book does, do I need to resend it from the Blackberry BIS site, and if so, is this something I should do on a regular basis?
