Default Blackberry Instant Messaging

When I access the Instant Messaging under the options menu, I keep getting the 404 error. Does anybody know how to get to the Instant Messaging? And what services does the Blackberry Instant Messaging support?

The Blackberry Messenger only supports the Blackberry proprietary network - it's peer to peer on the BB units. But I don't follow what you are talking about under the options menu. It should be right on the home screen "Blackberry Messenger"

I am using the T-Mobile Zen theme that displays only 5 icons on the desktop. I have "Blackberry Messenger" as well as "Instant Messaging" that came with the phone. When I choose Instant Messaging, it's trying to access a page on the internet but I get the 404 error.

It should go to a menu that has AIM, MSN, ICQ and Yahoo Messenger. You might have to update your software. Mine doesn't have to connect to the internet.

Try calling your wireless provider and they should walk you through it.

ckim, Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan from your service provider? Does your email work and can you access the internet via your BB browser?

I have the data plan. Everything works: email, internet, etc...

Just a pain to have something not work on this device. I downloaded Ramble AIM which is free and i've used it before on a verizon 7250.

How do you update your software? Through DM?

You have to get it from T-Mobile. Check which software version you have and see if they updated with newer versions.

Update the latest software for your BB and upload it with DM.

1. Is ramble only for AOL?
2. You need a data plan to access I.M

im having the same problem. i went to tmobile for about an hour and they could not figure it out. they gave me a new pearl on the spot and it did the same error 404. i looked at the display pearl they had and it worked like a charm. i checked the os ver on the display fone and it was version v4.2.0.42 and it worked like a charm. the 2 pearls i got were v4..2.0.64.
so if your im is not working im going to guess that you have the new 64 version of the os.

i still cant get it to work

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

If you are stumped, there are many other good IM applications you could use. Try them, look in Aftermarket Software Apps on this board.
