Hey All,

I'm pretty new to the whole BB thing and I need some help to see if I can fix an issue. The problem I'm experiencing is that I just got a BB 8310 through work but due to administration updates; I had to do, alot of the basic features of the BB are now blocked such as the camera, pinning...etc. I was hoping someone could give me an idea of how to "fix" this problem. Any tips would be appreciated.

Your employer choose to put those restrictions in place. Can you remove them, yes temporarily.

The "fix" to your problem is to talk to your IT department and justify your need.

Agree with the previous post. If this is a company owned and paid for device, on their network, they have the right to restrict what you can and cannot do via an IT Policy. Your best course of action is to talk to the BES Admin/IT Staff and have the policy explained to you. Trying to circumvent an IT Policy could be grounds for termination. Depends on how serious they are about the device and security.

As a BES Admin, the other 2 above are correct - there isn't anything you can do to get around the restrictions.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Good to know it's not really worth it. Just thought it was silly to block a camera feature.

or... you could wipe out the device and restore the factory settings, thereby removing the policy, then simply dont enterprise activate it again. you can still use BIS for personal emails, and also for your corporate mail if they allow pop or owa. in a pinch the desktop redirector works too.

I think it must be a real power trip for these BES admins to block things like camera and micro SD usage. Like you're really gonna use your BlackBerry to steal company secrets?? And if you were going to steal company secrets, they really think you can't figure out another way if they restrict your BB usage? Our company's BES admins keep trying to do the same thing and we keep shooting them down. And now we're just about ready to start getting 3G iPhones and they're really pissed about that too! They should get a life! Or at least a job that let's them play with the same toys we get to play with LOL

There's a lot more to it than just "stealing company secrets." Think of their "network" like a house of cards. They have to protect the house of cards. If someone pulls one card from one corner of the house of cards, the whole thing will come toppling down. There are real dangers out there. While the BB isn't really one of the big dangers, they are still responsible should anything happen. They really do have to protect their infrastructure.

You think? Do you think that "these BES admins" are flying solo on this? Don't you think that perhaps in many cases, these mandates come from mahogany row? Most BES admins are under direction of superiors to enable certain restrictions such as disabling SMS messaging, and requiring a password.

MicroSD card usage can be used to circumvent attachment disabling on a corporate email platform. And can in fact be used to store company documents that in some cases you wouldn't be able to get out of the building otherwise.

Don't worry, us power hungry BES Admins feel the same about you cowboy know-it-all end users.

Do you seriously think we have nothing better to do than to sit here and lock down features on your COMPANY device? Perhaps you need to walk a mile in our shoes before you start spouting off about things you know nothing about.

I am the BES Admin for our company and I have both a BlackBerry device and a 3G iPhone. And there are many other BES Admins (and moderators here) that also have used iPhones (or have them now). So we do have a jobs that lets us play with 'toys'. And that's exactly what they are - TOYS.

juwaack68, I am sure you BES admins do the same as us General Network Admins. We make life hard on the end user and read all of their email and personal documents.

I love this forum!! LOL! Your company gives you a phone to use for FREE and you complain when features sensitive to the company are disabled. I admit, my IT guys are a little overeager to disable some things (SMS Messaging is one), but we get paid to protect the company! And just like John Clark says, if you don't like it, go buy your own device and spend $ 100/month or more on service.

I would be pissed too. Go from a deivce with a great security set to a device that is a joke in the corporate world. "Oh, the device is locked, no problem, tap the home button twice and your in." And good luck using the device with 5 hour a day battery life.

I love it when people get that sense of entitlement to things. It's that... "I am the employee and you will do as I wish." Just rememer who signs the checks people. You work for THEM and if they don't want you shooting nudie pics of your girlfriend on the company dime...TOO BAD!
