Default So tell me about this BB messenger.

Please Login to Remove!

I use ICQ and MSN quite a bit for work...Just got my BB 8703 on friday still figuring things out. Is it a good idea to activate the messenger?

Hi Novica, welcome to the forums.

BB Messenger is an IM program that works only between Blackberry devices. You have to know the other person's Blackerry PIN in order to use it with the other person.

EDIT: You can find a decent user guide here: BBMessenger User Guide

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

BB messenger is only BB to BB. Based on PIN. If you have friends or colleagues with BB's, you might find it useful.

That answers my question about what the PIN was...How does one find what their PIN is?

I notice not too many people share that...lol Doesn't sound like something you should share with a stranger

If you have friends with BB's it rocks!!!! Enjoy!! But search on how to find you PIN first! A lot of your friends will be asking "How do I find my pin!"

Click on the Options icon, then Status to find your PIN. Each BB has it's own unique PIN.

Oh...kinda missed your last question. Not sure on your device but it should be Menu>Options>status on some devices you can type ALT + EACE

There's nothing wrong or un-secure about sharing it - but a lot of people here don't post it so that they don't receive random PIN messages from people they don't know or don't wish to receive them from.

The PIN is used for BB Messenger AND you can also do a 'Compose PIN' from the Messages application (which bypasses any email accounts - goes straight to/from BB to BB).

And if you want to continue using those then I would suggest JiveTalk. Great program! You must pay but its worth it!

^^ Ditto!

JiveTalk is a great multi-IM client - can chat with MSN, Yahoo, AOL, MSN - all within 1 application.

Novica,

Are you using BES or BIS? I am guessing BIS. You will need to use the filters to prevent SPAM. You do this via your email accounts and via your BIS account filters. If you want to know the exact prOcess (yes just for you since you are from Canada!) you should go to the FAQ's there is a ton of information there on it.

There is actually a thread here where people exchange PIN's. They have to meet new friends because there old ones are cool enough to have a BB!
