Question BB showing READ. Notes showing Unread

Please Login to Remove!

win2003
Xeon 2.8 / 4gigs
Bes 4.0.4.3 w/ 100users
Domino 6.5.4

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I couldnt find it while searching.

Whenever user reads messages on his BB they still show up as being UNREAD when he opens up Lotus Notes.

I have checked all the policys and everything is still at default. This happened out of the blue.

thanks.

Try resending the service books to your users device.

thanks.
Are you saying that at some point in time opening messages on the BB marked those messages as READ in Notes? And now it's the other way around? Is this only happening to one user?

This is what I want!!! When I open messages on my BB they are marked as READ in Notes. I would prefer if they were left as UNREAD in Notes! I am using the same version of BES, with Domino Server 6.5. We are set up so that deleting a message in Notes also deletes on the handheld, but deleting on the BB does not delete in Notes.

Thanks,
Marcia

Hey ZeroKool,

Is your user accessing the local replica of his Lotus Notes mail database? If yes, he needs to manually replicate with the server copy to sync the read/unread marks. This is assuming that you have already setup unread marks replication under his mail file's database properties for him already...

No. When the message is read on the BB is becomes READ. But then if you go check the message in notes it still shows UNREAD.

This is happening to only one user out of 100. I have it set up to where "Local MailBox wins" and it does an Enterprise Sync. Have resent service books. No luck. I have heard there was a fix for this kinda thing but it was only happening in BB 2.2. And when you updated to 4.0 it was fixed. Anyone?

Default Knowledge

After further research:

It appears that BB has a 20 minute or 20 things rule:
The BB syncs back with the Notes mail file after 20 minutes or 20 things happen. For instance: If you mark more than 20 messages READ then it will then sync with your local mail file. Or if you wait more than 20 minutes.

I'm waiting on confirmation from the user. But this appears to be the major problem with UNREAD / READ messages.

Here is also a BB Knowledge link which I will try next:

Livelink - Redirection

Is this only an issue with Notes? We are on Exchange 5.5 (soon to be Notes), and a number of users are having issues where they read an item on one side, and it doesn't reconcile with the other (or vice versa). Tethered synchronization seems to take care of it, but we are using Bes 4.1.1.10 and everything is set to wireless synchronization.

Read/unread sync is never immediate unless your BES has only 1 user to serve. It is a low-priority task and it is not unusual to have to wait up to 20-30 minutes for them to sync. That's why all 4.0 & above BB have the messages option "Reconcile Now..." - your users can use this function to request for an update sync to be performed; but again it will work or not work depending on:

1. BES server load
2. user's mail server availability

I would not see this as a very critical issue but I will be more worry if email messages are not redirected to BB...

FYI on my Exchange issue - a reboot of the server seems to have solved the problem for me (for now) over the weekend.. I'm going to surf through the event logs later today to find out what happened.

noname - good to know...! I'm going to forward this information off to our help desk.

Update
Finally, we've found the problem..:
After upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1, BlackBerry® device users with extended ASCII characters in the IBM Lotus Domino canonical name cannot synchronize read/unread status of messages
