Default Newbie being confused by desktop software?

Hi New to Forum and very new to Blackberry having been a Samsung user for years...however have acquired a new 9780 bold and its G8...but the bug in the rug that is really getting through to me, is the blackberry desktop software.
I downloaded the software as instructed and bingo it instantly recognised device, updates were carried out and recent photos taken, transferred to PC, everything in the garden as they say was rosy, with me thinking well this technology is OK.
However subsequent attempts to use software fail, it either will not open, or if it does it recognises my phone but will NOT connect to PC?
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and again it might connect and all is well ,but most times it just sits there inert!
Its now once again failing to connect. What makes it so troublesome??
I appreciate you have similar query's to this one, but I cannot find one that answers my problem...if this is a multinational forum then I'm across the pond in the UK..if someone could kindly point me in the direction of some software that is stable I would appreciate it..Thanks

If you connected ok when first installed then the culprit is likely the computer or a conflict with a software package on the computer. The first thing to verify is your connected using the data cable required and it is in a primary port not a hub port. If the cable is correct and the port is ok then the next thing you might try is some type of block the anti virus software added after the first use. If it worked the first time it should work. When you updated the software it may have just added what was needed and not really replaced the software. Go into the computer software management application and totally remove the desktop manager software. Delete the folder it was in . Once your sure it is fully cleaned out then download a new copy and reinstall. Hopefully this will work. If the same thing happens then you have some type of conflict as I suggested before. If this does not help the next post needs more detail on the OS you running and how your downloading the desktop software. It may help to solve the problem.
