Is there a way (on the BB itself or on BES) to change the character set of outgoing messages?

Here is the situation:
We are trying to estabilish communications between BBs and a client that only accepts US-ASCII character set messages. When I send a plain text message to this client from my Outlook account, it arrives as "text/plain" and "us-ascii", and it is readable. When I send a plain text message to this client from the BB, it arrives as "text/plain" and "utf-8". The subject line is readable, but the content of the message is all junk.

Does anyone have any advice?
