Default upgrade 4.0.3 to 4.1.6 (Domino)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello
We want to upgrade our BES 4.0.3 (Domino 8.0 and 6.5 on BES) to 4.1.6.
How must we do that?

I wanted to install a new server with 4.1.6. and move teh users.
But after having moved the users, what must i do to turn off the old server (what must be moved ?)?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello jhanff,

I´d strongly recommend to stay as closely to RIM's documentations as possible. Contact your carrier´s business sales rep regarding 4.1 serversoftware, perform the upgrade and get SP6 for Domino from blackberry.com/downloads.

RIM-KB: Checklist for upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 to 4.1

Official RIM documentation:
Upgrade Guide BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Lotus Domino Version 4.1 Service Pack 5

Hope it helps a bit.

I would recommend a slightly different approach. It sounds like you want to upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.1.6 and THEN move everybody to a new BES running 4.1.6.

The database schema between 4.0.3 and 4.1.6 is quite different. To preserve your data on BESMGMT, you need to upgrade the BES version first and then perform a Knife-Edge Cutover.

l0ki is right though.

KB05217 - Checklist for upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 to 4.1

KB04261 - Perform a cutover to another BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance in an IBM Lotus Domino environment

When performing the actual cut over, DO NOT have oldBES running at the same time you bring up newBES. It's like crossing the streams. Egon says that's bad.

Not too sure if you can do that. I would go to 4.1.3, then apply SP6.

The names RIM provides for the files can be a bit misleading at times. Perhaps you should call your contact at RIM (where you got your 60 day SRP) and see which one would suit your needs.
