So the I phone is now cheeper than the curve... Hmmmm...
It looks like on July 11th ill be grabing one but first I need to find out if it is going to work on t mobile. I can do without the hot spot at home thing, but I relly want gps. I'm worried apple will make the new one "ununlockabul" or something for att's sake. I'm not gonna drop 200 bucks till I know it's gonna work with t mobile but I wanna grab it before it's sold out, what do you guys think I should do?

it wont be sold out, just wait till you can see if it will be possible to run on Tmo. They are putting some added restrictions on the process, different than last time.
-activations are done in store unless you buy through apple.
-also their are rumors that AT&T will penalize people who do not activate within 30 days.
so just wait and see, it most likely will not sell out as they will have a ton of them. If they do its only temporary.

My understanding is that, in the US of A, you now will not be able to buy an iPhone at an Apple or AT&T store without simultaneously activating it (with AT&T). With the original iPhone you could buy it from Apple, unlock it yourself and do what you pleased, explaining the thousands of "missing iPhones" that were purchased but never activated with AT&T.

The new story is that new iphone users will have to activate in store. Current iphone users can simply register your new IMEI with the store then go home and switch your SIM card and do everything else through iTunes. Much easier for existing users.
I'm not getting the new model for awhile mainly because they don't have 3G here, probably wait a few months.
FYI, I saw this map of the whole US which shows their 3G. Its much better then their map on the website.

Whoa... 3G in the center of IL? No way! I'm used to people forgetting about us down here!
Exciting even if I don't have AT&T.

My new Curve cost me just over $100, with discounts and credits, not even rebates.

no contract price will still be well above $200, if they sell it unactivated at all. so if you buy and cancel immediately, assuming standard ETF (there might be additional with the iphone) you are still paying roughly $400 for it.

I have a question I hope someone can answer. It looks like I'm getting a free 3G Iphone, which I would have to activate through Itunes at home after I get it. I would still be planning on using it on AT&T with their plans.
Will that be possible to do without activating in a store??

iPhone Junior may cost less up front, but the monthly went up $10, so on a 2-year contract, that's another $240 out of pocket

No, if you are not currently on an iphone then you will have to activate in store. Only people with active iphones will be able to activate at home.
This is being done to make buying iphones for unlocking / reselling more difficult.
If you are a current iphone user you will just give them the new IMEI and then your free to leave the store.
MBW, don't forget that the new data price is the same as all other 3G phones and the non-3G BB plans as well. For most people this is not a problem.

What do you want the GPS for? After reading the early news about the new iPhone, I was actually thinking it sounded interesting, but it seems Apple just HAS to do something to screw it up.
From the agreement for the SDK:
So if you wanted something to actually allow you turn-by-turn navigation, which I love on my Curve, sounds like you're out of luck once again.

Turn-by-turn navigation isn't the same as real time route guidance, I suspect.

Umm, yes, they're quite synonymous, and used interchangeably, if you look at any of the marketing literature for Telenav, or the GPS units like Garmin or TomTom.
I suspect Apple put that in there for liability reasons, so they never get sued for someone running into a concrete bridge abutment while they're looking at the Telenav-style screen. Still VERY limiting compared to pretty much ANY other phone out there with GPS.
