access backup on computer
Please Login to Remove!
My blackberry went in the lake and I don't know how to access the backup file on my computer. Can I look at my calendar, etc., without having a usable blackberry?

Yes, download the blackberry simulator enable the USB simulation and restore your data on to the virtual blackberry

just like you would with a real blackberry.
When you select to enable the USB from the simulator menu, the desktop manager will think you've plugged in a real blackberry. Then just restore the data.

Will this also allow you to view email messages, phone logs, and other things that I think are actually stored on the SIM? Also, is there anything special you have to do other than synchronizing your Blackberry, to create a backup file?

If there is something stored on the SIM you'll need a sim reader from Dekart or something similar.
It will restore the entire contents of the phone's memory since it was last backed up.

I hate to sound dense, but under the simulator menu the option to select USB is shaded. Any ideas about what I may be doing wrong? Thanks. Steve

Yes. The destop manager says "connected" and the handheld can even be backed up to the computer itself. However, the USB option under the simulator menu is still shaded.

Can I add an additional question? I have a similar problem.
I religiously backed up and deleted the old backup files.
I now want to recover some of my purged messages and PINs.
The advanced backup feature on the desktop says that there is a database of 500 purged messages, which can be restored onto the handheld... but even when I do that, I can't access them.
Is there anyway to recover purged messages either on the handheld or via the desktop?

Before my Blackberry was upgraded, a backup was made of the information stored by the technician handling the upgrade. After the upgrade he was not able to restore the backup. The Blackberry does not recognise the backup file. He has copied this to me on my home pc and I have tried to download the simulator referred to above to access the data on the backup. I cant get the simulator to run from Winzip. Can anyone suggest a way that I can restore the backup directly to my Blackberry or alternatively load and run the simulator to access the data on the backup. Thanks
