Default 9630 in australia question

Please Login to Remove!

hello fellow blackberry fans,

I have a blackberry 9630 for verizon but I just recently moved to Australia. I am going to live here for 5 months and I've been told I can use the phone here but that it will be very expensive to do so through verizon. However, most of the people I know here who are here for the same duration I am have said that I can get an old phone from someone in AUS and put a sim card in it to make local calls. My question is:

If I buy one of these cards, can I just plug it in to my tour and use it instead of trying to get someone else's old phone? If so, will this allow me to use bbm as well?

thanks in advance for any help, it is surely appreciated. Cheers!

Generally the phone needs to be unlocked which you can have done. Once free to connect to another network provider allyou then need to do is contact a local carrier that supports the blackberry service. you will need a full blackberry Data plan to use BBM.

If you only going to be there for a few months, it may be easier and less cost to simply get a local month to month phone.

If you decide to unlock the phone this may help with the process you will need to follow. do a search for the specific BB you have for detailed directions.
