Default Buying an 8320 to unlock for use on ATT

Please Login to Remove!

I want to buy an 8320 from TMO to unlock for use on ATT. Has anyone had any luck buying one outright without activation from TMO? Or do you have to buy with a contract, then obtain unlock code from TMO and cancel the contract? I want to do this as soon as possible and would appreciate any advice that will help along the way.

Thanks

Others have, as testified by the posters in the threads around here.

Do as you described. I understand the UMA network settings won't work on AT&T, as it is not available on AT&T.

Thanks - I saw that thread when I searched earlier. I guess the specific questions are:

1) How much to buy for new activation? I assume if I cancel, even within 14 days and keep the equipment, I'll have to pay $200 cancellation on top of it?

2) Will tmobile provide me the unlock code or do I have to pay for it via an unlocking company? I've gotten mixed info on this.

You are right about the first question, usually, i have had situation where that didnt apply but they may charge you back for the difference of the equipment. be sure to purchase from a corporate store and not a reseller..
question 2, they may but usually you have to have the equipment for a awhile, i know a&t used to be 6 months or something crazy but im not positive. gsmphonesource, will do it in a day for 20$

Routinely, the carrier will give you the unlock code for free if you have been a customer for 90 days, and your account is in good standing. There are numerous reports on this board of getting the unlock code in less time, etc., by telling the carrier you were heading out of the country etc.

And you can always purchase the code from an unlock reseller.
