Hey all!
I found this site a few nights ago and wow. I thought the BB's were of a disposable design and couldn't be serviced. My first 8830 was dropped in a puddle and once dried out, the track ball did not work. I wish I had found you guys then. 50 bucks through insurence and I received a referbished 8830. Next time (and there will be a next time) I have the DIY's saved!

Since finding BBF, I have ordered a new black "sprint-esq" housing and the tools to do the swap, up-loaded some really cool themes and ringers, and am now trying to upgrade my OS to 4.5 so I can use an 8 gig micro sd.

Here is my problem, I get to step 4 in the instructions to up-grade and am not prompted to update when I open desktop manager. I up-loaded the latest version of dtm, I found the vender file with the search on my laptop and delete it. What am I missing? DTM just opens like normal and nothing happens.

OS 4.5 hasn't been released for the 8830 yet.

That might make it somewhat of a challenge for you to actually upgrade your device.

ahh thanks! I thought the 8800 OS was the same, guess not. What can I upgrade too if anything?

You can upgrade to 4.2.2.196, but there's probably little reason to do so.
You may already be running it.

OS 4.5 will be out for the 8830 sometime this year.

I do think O.S. 4.2.2.365 supports an 8 GB SD card for your BlackBerry I got 4.2.2.196 from VZW and one of the release states this allows me to use an 8GB SD card. Although I haven't found a good deal an an 8GB yet to try it.

Besides O.S. 4.5 should be out soon (a famous line for last 2 months now lol)

Hi, I,ve got one question too. Only regarding phone status and no transfering. As it happens my vodafone number was transfered to orange (uk) today, but my BB status still shows old orange number. Is that supposed to be, or will it change eventually to vodafone one?
