Default BES Activation Issue + Notes 1GB+ Mail folders

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,
first post here, so go easy! ;o)
Just taken over the blackberry side of our company, a long time issue no one has bothered to look into is the BES servers inabiltiy to allow blackberry activation if the users notes mailfile is over 1GB.

BES 4.07 server
Handhelds range from 8700 - 9000

Anyone come across this limitation?

Is it resolv'able? or is it purely a restriction placed on the OS

Wow, 1 GB mail file...

None of my users are that high yet....

I would have your users archive there mail, or have you run done any compacting on thier mail files?

1GB is small, did an audit of one office, some top as high as 7gb.
Lawfirms for some reaons are very difficult to Archive.

regardless, im sick of having to create temp mail files, then relink etc etc, becase BES never activates if there mail file is over 1GB

I can't think of any reason to keep that much email. Is there no document retention policy?

I have a user with an 8GB mailfile (lawyer) and it took over three and a half hours to activate. That was on a BES 4.1.6 server.

What are you seeing with EA? It is erroring out and ending the process? Or does it appear to 'stick'? If it is the stick, leave it for a few hours, and see what happens.

Jadey is right. Give it time. Look at the MAGT log and see if BES is scanning the mail file. Also, have the users move old files out of their Inbox and into other folders.
