I use the youtube mobile website while connected to wifi, i'd expect to view the videos on my wifi connection, but it seems like it switches back over to 3g for the stream. anything i can do to change that? or is there update or something like that

did you try switching to the hotspot browser? I think you can go to bookmarks and select wi-fi hotspot login.

There is an option in ur browser options to "switch to WAP for streaming media". Uncheck this and this should stream over wifi
