I too have the problem of not being to access EDGE data connection even thought the phone clearly indicates 4-5 bars of EDGE signal. It is as though the phone is getting GSM, but falsely indicating EDGE. My symptoms are not being able to connect to the internet and emails even with the EDGE. So far my only cure is to pull the battery but this method only lasts for like 5 minutes before I stop receiving EDGE data. Important note - this occured after I upgraded to V.4.2.1.107 per the advice of a T-Mobile representative.
