Default Anything special to enable UMA?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I have an 8520 on PAYG Orange SIM. All working nicely on wifi at home for 'normal' internet access - no mobile signal at home. I can browse and send and receive email all over wifi.

However I can not seem to find anyway of trying UMA? Is this configured somewhere? Software version? I am on v4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135). I have tried re-sending servicebooks.

Anything special to get UMA?

I don't know if it is related but I don't see any options for 'connection preferences' - I have seen other talking about selecting a connection preference for wifi/mobile etc. I do not have that option. Is that related?

Be gentle as this is my first posting
Cheers
Paul

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Uma is dependent on carrier useage and phone. The 8500 on tno here in the states has uma I believe. I'm not sure if others do. And if your carrier doesn't support it, you won't get it...

And there is no setting for uma as it is all hardware dependant

Is it an Orange Branded 8520?
Orange UK do support UMA, but only on their branded handsets.
If its SIM free/unbranded, or a unlocked different carriers branded 8520, UMA is not available on it.

Just like the 8900 for t-mobile US has UMA, and for t-mob UK it doesnt.

Thanks, that is what I feared. The 8520 is not Orange branded

Next question is how to modify/fix it It must be configurable or customisable somehow?

Back to Google...
Cheers

Nope.
Its firmware (not software i.e OS) that dictates it.
Blackberry enables it for the carriers handsets that offer UMA. as few countries have carriers that use UMA.

You'd have to get a Orange branded 8520 to use UMA.

Fixed it!!! :-D

8520 sim-free with Orange PAYG and UMA....

Got onto the escreens as per:
.206/.231 and UMA - Page 3 - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com
[Note: this has the potential to go severely wrong and to turn you BB into a brick so don't try unless you want to take the risk]

Then look at post #32 by ftg888 - what a nice person!

I'm very pleased!
Thanks everyone for your help

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

I have read about it before. The software was leaked and is illegal.

Oops sorry about. Should I remove my posting above?

Not that it makes any difference to the question of legality, I didn't download any software - just used a website where you enter the details and it gives the code.

Cheers
