Messages are saved on the device memory or on the sim. Dont think there is a way to save the saved messages to the sd card, but i could be wrong

You are correct. There is no way to save SMS on the memory card.
The 8900 has 256mb of device memory. jonnewman - how much free space do you have available (Options / Status will tell you).

Theres an app tho to email sms conversations however, that could be used as a workaround.

Go to options (wrench icon)>SMS Text

Look for a line that says "Leave messages on SIM card" and make sure its set to NO.

Then sms will be stored on the device memory and not your sim. Have lots of contacts on your sim?

i never understood why people want to save SMS messages. i would prefer to have my memory free for other things. i know this doesn't help the OP, but you got your answer already
