Current iPhone 4 User - Might Switch to BB
Please Login to Remove!
I got the iPhone 4 on launch day and previously had the 3G. The phone is definitely awesome and is very simple to use, however I'm kind of tired with it. I use a lot of apps, but I definitely don't take full advantage of what the iPhone has to offer.
A lot of my friends have BBs and I've been tempted to switch to one. I currently have AT&T and one of the phones on our plan is upgrade eligible. If I was to get a BB, I could sell the iPhone 4 for about $700 on eBay. Not a bad deal.
I don't know much or anything about any BB rumors, and I know the only options AT&T has to offer me are the Torch and the Bold 9700. I've googled and searched but didn't find anything so my question is does anyone know if AT&T will be coming out with a new version of the Bold or Curve any time soon? I'm not interested in the Torch. What's something that will definitely lead me to make the switch?
Thanks.

So they don't do a new model of each phone yearly? They just release one phone per certain amount of time? I'm totally new to what BB has to offer.
So if I don't want the Torch, my best bet is the 9700? Will that Bold come with the new OS?

They may do a model of each phone yearly, but as the Torch was released 5 days ago.... even if "a model a year" was true, you'd have to wait till Aug 2011...
Which I assume you don't want to do.

As far as the last question, I doubt there's a good something, and the odds are against you being happy with a blackberry.
BlackBerrys are different, and lagging the other brands in the things that it seems a lot of people want.
I think the BlackBerry excels as a communication device, especially for email, and it is tough, reliable, and secure.

See I don't really think I wouldn't be happy with it. I'm kind of looking for something more simple or old fashioned rather than this new beauty that is the iPhone 4. Kind of looking to go back to basics, but not like flip phone/non smart phone basic.

Well, give it a try. Maybe you will like it. Just take it as it comes and get with the blackberry way of doing things.
Over the years I see many people looking to do things and have things the way they expect based on what they've used before, and they get frustrated and disappointed.
The blackberry is an end to end system. You will really need a blackberry data plan to get the full function of the system. Think of the blackberry device as the hardware interface to the blackberry/RIM services and network.
Also realize that things that are easy and straightforward on other devices to make them user friendly are limited or not straightforward on the blackberry because of security. You'll just have to see for yourself.
Browse the forum and read the complaints from new users. And read through blackberryfaq.com.
Good luck. Welcome to the group.

I would of course get a data plan and it wouldn't be a problem paying for it since I already have one with my iPhone.
I'll check out the faq, too.
But if I was to get the 9700, say very soon, would it come with the new OS 6? If it doesn't come with it, would I have the option to install it?

No the 9700 doesn't come with OS 6.
But RIM have announced OS 6 for the 9700.
We just don't when its coming out for it.

Before you switch to BlackBerry, define your priorities for your phone. For me, it's messaging, then PIM, and finally good old fashioned phone calls. Yeah, that's right. I actually use my BlackBerry for voice calls. Imagine that!
Multimedia is way down on my list of things I do on my BlackBerry. If multimedia is your focus, BlackBerry is going to be a terrible disappointment to you. And coming from the iPhone you can expect a bit of culture shock. All I'm saying is to look before you leap, and be honest with what you really do with your mobile on a day-to-day basis.

Like rambo said - it depends what you use most and what you value. If its primarily text and email, BB is the way to go. If all you ever do is use apps - the iPhone may be right for you. It really boils down to what you use the device for.
