oh man, headaches...
Please Login to Remove!
So I'm trying to connect my blackberry device and load the application so I can install jivetalk, then I run into this error as my applications load:
The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator.
What's going on now? sigh....
thanks

Sounds like you don't have the Handheld OS package installed to your computer. If it's 4.2.1.72 Get it here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

Personally, never used JiveTalk. If you have .alx and .cod's put them all in a folder somewhere you won't delete them. Then use Application loader and the "add" button and browse to the .alx file. Finish the installation.
If they're .jar or .jad, those are loaded through the BB Browser OTA.
Did you get the BBMessenger to install too?

No I haven't gotten BB messenger on there yet, Once I add jivetalk, I'll reinstall the OS and hopefully it's smooth sailing from there.
I'm going to try it now, thanks John.

I have the jivetalk folder on my desktop right now and in it are two files .alx and .cod
when I click add and go to my desktop, it doesn't show the jive talk folder there.

If you installed the OS package to the PC you should see a list of applications with checkboxes. I don't have the 8800 so I can't test myself but you should have a line for Blackberry Messenger and a check box. Just check it.

Put the folder somewhere else. I have a separate folder in My Documents for BB software. If you delete the folder, the next time you connect the BB to app loader the app will be deleted.

i just created a folder called "blackberry software" in my documents.
When I click add, it sees the folder, but when I click on it, there is nothing on the inside.
How do I solve that? I know I know, it's late once again.

Move the .alx file and the .cod for JiveTalk in there and use the "add" button in Application Loader. You only have to add the associated .alx file. The .alx file tells the Desktop Manager to load the .cod file to the BB.

Working! thanks!
I found out that I needed to remove those .alx and .cod files from the jivetalk folder and put it into the "blackberry softwares" folder.
Awesome.
Thanks a bunch

Did you get the right version of BBMessenger installed? Was there a version in the apploader?

yeah it was the same version that came when I first got the phone, and it worked at first.
Did I do something in the settings? BTW, jive talk is working now for some odd reason after a restart.
I think I'm just going to give up until my replacement arrives next week from Amazon.

That is the version you need installed. Don't install the OTA version. It won't work.

and then I changed it to

I wonder if it had to do something with the ? i had after my name...
