I've never had trouble with any OS upgrade/downgrades... until this one. I did the usual (download, install, delete vendor file, open apploader, load new OS) however, in the middle of the installation I think the USB cord may have come loose... or, the installation just went wrong and bricked my device. End result, I got the dreaded "reloaded software, error 507" white screen on my 8900. After I saw this, I told myself "no biggie, I'll just redo the process over again, and no worries..."
Only until 2 hours later, I want to throw my 8900 against the wall because I've tried everything and I keep running into the infamous "multi-stage loading could not be completed." For the ones who been down this path, I've got my laptop to recognize the device as apploader reads the device as "PIN:UNKNOWN" and I go to the next step, eventually it takes me to the screen where I can click and unclick what I want and don't want... after hitting next again, the installation process starts up... beginning with "loading software" after this, is the "device initialization" step and this is where my 8900 craps out on me... after about a minute of the window stuck on the "device initialization" step, I get the "multi-stage loading could not be completed"
I've searched this topic and tried many variations (timing the battery during the installation process, try loading an older OS, etc.) and I'm about to call it a night... unfortunately, its nearly 3:30am and I'm without a working BB... life sucks...
anyhow, I'll cross my fingers and hope that I have better luck tomorrow or I can hope I wake up and it was all a very very bad dream, haha.
any tips fellow BBers?

May be try running Jl_Cmder. (java loader) and do a clean wipe from there.

I was reading the other posts and they said the VendorXML file is not there so I didn't even look for it. I just hooked my phone up and ran DM 4.7 and it fired right up.

OK ,
I noticed some people couldn't find the XML File.
I made exactly the same mistake, I looked in the
c:\Programs\Research In Motion Folder instead of the
c:\Programs\common Files\Research in Motion Folder
After intially trying to go through the 4.7V DM fromBB which failed because my laptop wanted to hibernate I successfully installed using the exact procedure above.
did it in 20 mins was using the original install from supplier so will let peeps know how it pans out.

I can only see the sample videos and the 3gp videos I've taken with my phone (which are on the media card.) I cannot see all the other videos on my media card using the media player with this new release. However, if I use File Manager Pro I can see them and open them in media player. Anyone else having this problem after installing .168?

Anyone having GPS trouble with this build? Mine can't find any sats. I got an error the first time I refreshed GPS that said something about location tracking was disabled remotely....or something close to that. Is this something I have to have my IT guys fix at the BES level?

I am very satisfied with this OS after 2 days.. Some Observations: - Battery performance is better than .133
- YouTube Streaming A+ EDGE and Wi-Fi
- Camera performance: Taking picture much quicker (Gained about 2 secs)
Great Build!

Installed on Friday, uninstalled on Monday.
My BB would freeze up after rebooting and get stuck on the "Media card inserted" message. After hitting the shutdown key, it would proceed to the the home screen with a big white Tmobile logo blocking the screen.
It would then shutdown temporarily and reboot, this time to the home screen but I lost 50% of my icons, no message icon, no SMS/MMS icon, BB Browser, etc...
I loved it while it worked but after 2 occurrences of this, decided to go back down to .152.
I loved the youtube and the quicker response when viewing folders for pics and music on .168, it will be missed.
Disappointed...

Hello, I have a BB curve 9300 but its german so the keyboard layout is diferent (z switch with Y) and also the software, I was thinking on updating the device software to a newer version or a USA version and change the keyboard (hardware) so software and key are the same. Will taht work???
Thanks!!!

Wirelessly posted (8900)
The GPS locks in WAY quicker on this release. I went from around 2 minutes to under 20 seconds. Will test again tomorrow but this alone makes the upgrade worth it for me.

Hey guys an update to this OS not sure what happened
- i upgraded from .152 and everything went fine then all of a sudden i noticed a large battery drain on the device... i went from 50% to 2-% in a matter of 2 hours with little usage... so i wiped the entire device with jl_cmder and reloaded .168
i'll report back in a couple days with my findings

I didn't try the GPS, so I don't know what to say about that, if it's working or not. BUT, this is by far the most PRO-battery life OS I had so far. After one day of use (and believe me, I talk and email a lot), I'm at 80%. Disconnected from the outlet yesterday morning.
I'll check the GPS today, although I prefer longer battery life instead of GPS.

I have a camera bug, T-Mobile Germany 8900, each time I press the camera button, the screen freezes with the camera icons, although the picture is dark. I then have to remove the battery to get the phone to work again. I now have OS .133. Does anyone think this software update will make any difference?

So far, this OS has been a huge improvement in speed. Especially in browsing media from the card. The battery life seems to be better than even .152. The handheld seems to just get better each OS release. However, I dont get youtube. I do think that its the BES and the IT policy that might be affecting it. I will be doing some investigating.
