No it comes with your service book when you sign up for a BIS plan

basically u have a carrier plan to use it then right, not a prepaid plan then

A service book from the carrier enables the user to use BlackBerry messenger. But the application itself comes default with the device software. Data connectivity on the device is required for BBM to function properly.
