I have most of the features on my phone operating as I want them too, but my desktop manager doesn't give me the option to configure my email synchronization settings. The checkbox is greyed out.
Email does not sync using BIS. For that to work, you need to be on a corporate BES.
Some email providers do offer some form of sync as they have agreements in place with RIM. Might check or search on gmail and Yahoo. Don't use either on a BB, but I do remember reading about the capability.
