Default Why did "Wipe Handheld" improve my UMA?

Please Login to Remove!

My phone has been pretty good on UMA, but never really worked on WPA2 security. So, on WEP for my routers.

After upgrading to .180 things have been better. But at times my phone would reboot while on a call, or seemingly turn off, with a blank screen then turning back on. This was without using bluetooth.

I was going to try to re-install the OS but I tried wipe first. After the restore, my phone seems way more stable. I can actually use WPA2 now and my bluetooth headset.

Why would the wipe help? My problems go back to 4.2.2.171 so whatever problems there were should have gotten fixed by the upgrade to .175 and then .180.

+1, there are a number of ad-hoc reports that a wipe and rebuild is fixing odd, random problems (like your rebooting). I can only imagine that some setting/config/etc. that came from the factory was whacko, scrubbing it and doing a selective restore then got rid of that problem.

Maybe some corrupted data or settings which were repaired or reset by the wipe handheld.

Did you ever copy a backup file from another model Blackberry to your Curve? Or did you ever use Switch Device Wizard from another model to your Curve?

Dave
Never had a BB before, so straight out of the box other than I synced to Outlook to load phone numbers/addresses.

Just thought it was odd that resetting the settings would fix something that I thought would be some component of the OS. Guess it is more than just a data wipe.

Happy that I don't have to warranty it. Love this phone.
