Just read in article saying that the 9000 series will drop Q4 THIS year???
seems really unlikely and its not like i trust everything on the net anyway...But what i did hear was it will support 3G and an all new OS.
Isn't buying the 8800 in the meantime worthless????

I just think technology is moving so fast there is no predicting how fast what you purchase today will be outdated tomorrow. RIM has to keep up with their competition from Smartphone Devices so I have to assume they will release upgrades to their stable of devices just as quickly as they can.

The Apple iPhone is going to blow away most of these models in the pipeline for 2Q-4Q 2007 when it drops in June 2007.
Any buttons on a cell phone will become obsolete in the next few years.

Yeesh... not all this again. I take it you haven't read any of the other threads in here? I won't bother to refute the iPhone, WiFi and 3G points as they have been covered many times and the usefulness of those features will vary from person to person.
However, MP is merely one spec that can affect image quality. I have a miniDV cam (0. 3MP -- yes, the decimal point is in the correct place!) that can take better photos than most cell phone cams. It's not the resolution of the sensor that outclasses those camera as much as the quality of the optics and other qualities of the image sensors. Believing the higher MP = better quality is a common mistake.
I really have to doubt any time someone boldly declares that anything will be obsolete in whatever amount of time. Just because Apple introduce a touchscreen doesn't mean that it's the best solution in all cases...

Most cell phone cameras will reach 2-5 megapixels this year and eventually become really useful.
The Apple iPhone is going to blow away most of these models in the pipeline for 2Q-4Q 2007 when it drops in June 2007. A 3G iPhone is going to be epic.
The current OS's in smartphones are crippled. iPhone uses OS X and a real browser to allow more real access to Office attachments.
I have a BB Pearl 8100C and it is great for a phone released in 2004-05.
Looking at attachments like Word/Excel/PPT is aweful on a 2" screen.
With Edge no streaming multimedia anything.
Any buttons on a cell phone will become obsolete in the next few years.
If you want to blow $$$$, buy a waterproof 50" plasma for the bathroom.
Cheers
PS I will probably wait for a 3G iPhone or a 3G Cingy BB 8800/8900 or 9xxx series with a 2 megapixel camera.

My Cingular rep just called and asked if I still wanted a 8800. He said that they had either came in the door or would today. I think they are there but he can't sell them. I told him I would be buying outright and he said that was not a problem.
I think they are sneeky

That is funny! Are you so much of a MAC user that you have been blinded to what a touch screen keyboard will be like. Most the time I got to use it to make a judgement but not for a touch-screen keyboard!
I got work to do and emails to handle and a pretty little touch screen is not going to cut it as a keyboard.

The Cingular store near Flatirons Mall in Broomfield, CO (Denver) has them, but says they won't sell until the launch date. Others stores in town don't seem to know when they will get them.

I do love mac's and am trying not to be too tempted into buying the iPhone when it comes out. But, it's always been my intention to not use it for work if I got it. Just doesn't seem pratical for the number of emails I send. Plus, no syncing with Exchange over ActiveStink or opening of Office files.

So when virtual keyboards for desktops are perfected for the mass market, you'll blindly rule them out. OK. Got it.
Here that RIM? ... Stop the funding of that little project of yours.

Please tell me how one is able to do such "research" on a device that is months away from being released and, by all accounts, is not 100% finalized in its features and specs?
I really don't want to see this thread dragged towards a debate about the iPhone. I am obviously here because I am a BB user and enjoy the device. However, the BB is not the end-all, be-all for a lot of users, especially those of us who make a living on the Mac. I hope that in time, RIM decides to make the BB more Mac-friendly. But until that day comes, I welcome any alternative and will reserve judgment on that alternative for when it is actually finalized, released, and tested by the masses.

OK, no mater what I say you got to make a comment about it. I will not respond to you but this last time as you seem to only want to argue and that is not why I am here. Virtual keyboards are not the holy grail, NO KEYBOARDS are the real goal!
One day we will not use a keyboard anymore but right now and for at least a few more years a hard keyboard rules. It is the thing you are typing on right now and I suspect for quite a while.
Until this great break thru in touchscreen keyboards emerges, please pardon me for sticking to why I and most others will agree works better.
