For you bb gurus - notifications challenge for Tour
Please Login to Remove!
I'm struggling to get the notifications the way I like it for the tour. Please help if you can. Here is what I would like.
Generally, I want a ring tone and no other notifications when the phone rings. I want no other notifications at all for any other activity (email, text, calender, etc.) And when I am in a meeting, I want vib only for phone and no other notifications. So far, no problem. I set up a custom notification scheme that does this for me.
Now, here is the challenge. I would like a personal ring tone when my wife and when my home phone number calls. The problem is, this seems to trump when I put the phone in my custom meeting notification scheme. In other words, when these numbers call the BB when I'm in a meeting, it rings audibly with the assigned ring tone instead of vibrating.
Again, what I want in general is ring only for phone notification and no other notifications. Vib only for phone when in a meeting, and no other notifications. Personalized ring tone for home and wife, except when in a meeting, I want these numbers to vib, too.
I will dub anyone who helps me solve this the ninja Jedi knight of the Blackberry. Thanks.

When you set the custom tone under the notifications IE led, vibrate did you leave it to stay on your active profile?

As far as no notifications for the emails. It has to have a tone but you can change to volume to silent and disable the led and vibrate. So you will actually get no notification.

Huh? You can set any notification to be tone, tone + vibrate, vibrate, or none, so you do not have to set e-mail notification to tone.

A tone has to be selected for each notification I see no where that you can choose none. But as I said for the volume of that tone you can set it to silent so you won't hear it. And turn off the vibrate and led. But if you can select none on your device more power to ya.

Huh... Maybe the OS on the Tour has taken away the "none" option. Strange. Well, my bad then.

Yeah when I go to to ring tones/alerts and click on something to change it, under the ring tone there is no "none" option. Kinda lame I went up and down the list a few times and didn't see it hidden somewhere.

Maybe more has changed than I realize. For example, under Messages, I have the following options:
- Out Of Holster (this is where the None, Tone, Vibrate, and Vibrate + Tone options would be)
- Ring Tone
- Volume
- Number Of Beeps
- Repeat Notification
- Number Of Vibrations
Then everything repeats, but the first line is "In Holster." Lastly, there is the setting for Notify Me During Calls.
Is this not what you see?
Here is an image of what I'm talking about :

Yeah now it is sound "in" holster. You can set it if you want tone or just vibrate while in the holster.

Tours have
Ring Tone (with no option to select none)
Volume (with the option to select silent)
Sound in holster (simple yes or no)
Led (on or off)
Vibration (in holster only, on, off, custom)
Notify me during calls (yes or no)
Then a try it button to test it out.

The only way I know to do it is to uncheck the exceptions under profiles when you change the profile. On my curve, when I set my wife a specific ringtone, it creates an exception in the 'advanced' view of the profiles. When you go into profiles, scroll all the way down, click advanced. In the next screen you should see all your profiles and any "exceptions" you have. The custom tone for my wife is automatically checked by default. When you switch to the meeting mode, just uncheck the exception for your wife and home numbers, and they won't ring through anymore.
Hopefully that was understandable...

No problem at all. What program do you use for screen shots?

OS 4.7 changed the Profiles layout and format slightly. Now, Tone + Mute is the only way to get no notification. And as I recall, there was a glitch with things like calendar notifications still sounding even when Silent was your chosen profile.

Understandable. But, unless I'm missing something, it appears to be different on the Tour. I went to profiles, scrolled all the way down, but I don't see "advanced". In fact, I can not find "exceptions" anywhere.
