Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
Please Login to Remove!
I have a daily alarm series set up in the calendar on my Bold 9700. Changing the sound profile to Silent etc does not stop the alarm from sounding. Short of turning off the bloody thing, nothing seems to stop it - or does it?
Can you help please?

Re: Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
Why do you have an alarm set if you don't want to hear it? Kinda contrary. Sorry if I misunderstood.
Also, what model BB and OS version? Your profile says 9000 but you are asking about 9700.

Re: Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
The Sound Profiles (Silent, Vibrate, Normal, etc) only affect those items listed under the profile settings. The alarm isn't controlled by the profiles.
If you don't want the alarm to sound, you need to turn it off.

Re: Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
Thanks for the responses.
It is a 9700, and the OS is v5.0.0.593 (Platform 5.1.0.147). I have a daily alarm set up to remind me to take a pill, but it's not the end of the world if I don't. If I am in a theatre, or an important meeting, I want it to be silent, or vibrate only for the duration of that activity.
How can I turn the alarm off without deleting the item for that day? Or is deleting it the only thing I can do?

Use the task app for the reminder, and set the task alert setting in profiles the way you want it. Then when you switch profile to vibrate, it will vibrate, silent will be silent, etc.

Or set it up as a Calendar appointment and set the alerts the way you want in the active profile.
Then the alert will be controlled by the Profiles if you switch to a different one.

Re: Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
Ok, I have tried this. What I have set now is a daily ALARM event, so it rings continuously until I turn it off. If I use a Calendar or Task alert, whilst I can control it by the profile, it rings for a bit and then stops.
Can I mute the Alarm type event then please?

Re: Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
If you set the Alarm in the Clock function, the only way to not have it sound is to turn it OFF.
If you want reminder alerts for items such as the Calender, use a third party application such as BerryBuzz. I'm not sure if it works for Tasks, though, because I have that deleted from my BlackBerry. Works for Calendar appointments, though.

Thanks. This pretty much confirms what I expected, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being stoopid.
I do wish the Silent profile meant just that.

Re: Bold 9700 Alarm - can it be muted?
The reason is that alerts are alerts, the alarm is an alarm, which is different from an alert, and profiles only apply to alerts.

Just don't use the Alarm for notifications like this.
That's not really what it is meant for. There are better ways to be reminded of daily tasks and appointments.

This is a case of there being a right way, a wrong way, and a BlackBerry way. The BlackBerry way makes sense when you stand back and stare at it for a while.
They prioritized the alarm to ALWAYS work. Other things can be silenced, but the alarm is considered "mission critical" and overrides muting or profile changes.

Yes, I see where they are coming from. Just a pity there isn't a 'shut up completely, whatever' option.
