Question Q: BES, security policy, firmware upgrade and third party applications

Please Login to Remove!

I have T-Mobile 8700g with third party applications (Ramble, Google Maps, etc.) on it. They were installed before attaching to my company's BES, because the security policy prevents their installation after attaching to the BES (but not their use).

I see that there's new firmware out, and would like to upgrade to it, but my question is this:
- Knowing that the BES security policy prevents third party applications from being installed, will upgrading the firmware (which I believe 're-installs' the apps as part of that process) cause me to lose the third party applications that I have installed?

I searched the forums/Google/etc. and couldn't find an answer to this question.

Thanks!

it depends on the application, but I have Wiped my device and the software remains. As for an upgrade, if you do a backup and restore when you upgrade your OS it should restore all your settings as well as your third party software.

IIRC there's an option to backup your handheld though I don't recall if it covers third party apps. You could run the app loader to that point to verify.
