Exclamation Help with theme install on DM with 8310!

Please Login to Remove!

Well I had to join the forums to try and get the real answers to my ongoing issue. Ok here is my issue which I have tried relentless searching on. I am trying to install new themes to my curve 8310 which I purchased about 8 months ago.

- Desktop Manager v. 4.2.2.14
- Device Manager v. 4.2.2.10

Now I have read that I need to download a copy of my OS from my carrier's website so I don't recieve the error message "the blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for that device connected to the computer." My carriers website, (AT&T) has multiple software upgrades avail. including 4.2 and 4.2 serv pack 1 and 2 upon others up to 4.6. I do not know which one to download and then how to install to make this work.

If someone could help me with a step by step or lead me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. I'm new to the forums and I thank you in advance.

Welcome to the BBForums.

Application Loader Error - BlackBerryFAQ

You need to download the OS, (for instance the 4.2 Service Pack 2 you are referring to is Desktop Manager).

Not Device Manager, your want Device software or Operating Software.

Look for Device Software. On your BB, it is listed at Options > About, the third line down starting with "v.4.xx"

JSanders thank you for the welcome and fast response!

Ok. I looked my Device Software up in the about section of my phone and it says
V4.2.2.170. Now what would be my next step?

Find that OS, download it to your PC, double click the *.exe file and install it to your PC.

Currently ATT does not have that version available, but a newer version which you can upgrade to, or upgrade the OS to the latest OS 4.5 which is posted in the top Sticky Notes of this 8300 section of the forum.

You don't have to install the Desktop Manager version 4.5, your current 4.2 on your PC will do.

You can upgrade the latest 4.2 on the OS that ATT has, choose the 4.5 we have listed in this forum.

The newest version of Desktop Manager is not always necessary. It was moreso required when RIM moved the Desktop Manager from verision 4.1 to 4.2. We have kept that step in our instructions nonetheless.

If you download the handheld OS 4.5 and install it to your PC, you will want to install it to your device.

no nothing you change with your operating software or desktop manager could ever effect your contract through your provider, except in one case where i updated to 4.5 and it gave me the option to send mms instead of e-mail and got charged for picture messages because i forgot that wasnt part of my data plan or text message plan lol :P

Ok thank you but my other question to sum up this thread was that once the 4.5 firmware from the site is installed to my phone then this will solve my application error allowing me to upload themes through the 4.2 DM? Thanks I just want to be clear before I download 4.5

Yes, Once you have the same OS on your BB and on your PC, be it whatever version, your Desktop Manager will not give the error you were experiencing.

If you want, FIRST upgrade your Desltop Manager to version 4.5 withOUT media manager, and try installing the themes to your BB (without doing the OS upgrade).
