My 8330 is about 9 months old and the trackball has always felt a bit scratchy. Not the surface of the ball, but when I roll the ball, the action feels scratchy. It's always been this way and I'm wondering if it's supposed to. My 8830 trackball was always silent and as smooth rolling as silk. Should I do this?

The trackball on my 8800 was also quite smooth, and my 8320's was scratchy. No advice from me, just wanted to chime in and say I've experienced the same.

Try cleaning it.. Be carefull tho... u have to be very gentle...

It may help and is not difficult to do but I think that it probably is the ball surface. There are two distinct variations on the trackballs. The older ones were more smooth in nature and the newer ones seem to have intentional "cuts" in them for a more exact and tactile feel. A lot of the suppliers have carried the smoother ones for quite some time but I have noticed recently that they are shipping the "rougher" ones which I actually prefer.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion and preference. You might find some of the smoother ones running around still.

If you still have the old 88xx then just swap them. It will only take a moment! Just make sure when you reinstall that the long silver contact is positioned at 6 o'clock!
