Default Can you change the housing on the 8330?

Please Login to Remove!

I'd like to purchase a new housing (faceplate + back cover) for my 8330. Can you do this on the Blackberries, specifically the 8330? If so, any suggestions on good web sites that sell them? Thanks!

Default Changing the face plate on the 8330

Yes this is doable. All the blackberries Curves faceplates can be changed. You can purchase on on ebay or at cnn.ca...Videos on how to do it can be found on this website or on youtube.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 9530)

Also make sure that you buy housing specific to the 8330. Housings for the 8300/8310/8320 cannot be used on the 8330.

Bear in mind that for a 83xx it's not a two-piece design like older BBs (eg. 72xx, 87xx), instead it's a front plate, battery cover, side plates, top plate (as part of the chassis) and a operator plate (clip) at the bottom. As a result, yes, you can get them, and yes, you can change them, but it's not as easy as it could be. I changed mine, and despite having experience of changing housings on BBs before, it wasn't a perfect result.

The biggest issue is always going to be dust between the LCD and LCD lens (the housing). Not to mention you won't get a phone that feels as solid as a device built from the factory.

Definitely have a look at YouTube to get an idea of what you need to do.

Default Yes its easy if you have any experience

Yes its easy if you have any experience doing small jobs like repairing a lamp or something like that. cnn.com is the cheapest on housing or get them off of ebay

My Verizon 8330 that was originally silver is now black and no longer has the Verizon logo and it looks great.

Ordered a replacement housing off Ebay.

Just be sure what you order has all the parts you need (including the T5 / T6 screwdrivers if you don't already have them).

Not true, this myth has been disproved now on numerous attempts to switch from the 8320 housing to an 8330 housing and vice versa. I have done this myself and the results were great, not to mention, flawless. No modifications are required, everything fits perfectly, and the LED shines even brighter as it aligns much better with the 8330 housing on an 8320.
