Default Searching.... No Service.

Long time crackberry user, never needed to post till now.

Parents are switching from the world of CDMA to GSM, going with Rogers, and i found them a decent deal on 2 phone's a 8800, and 8220 for $120CAD so they don't have to deal with the hassles of contracts up here in canada.

Moving forward to the problem.

the 8800 has the standard broken usb port, which I've already fixed on others, so i wasn't concerned about it. but the problem i am having, is it cant get a service.

without SIM it complains of course, but searches, never goes to SOS with SIM it searches then says No Service.

I've called Rogers and verified the IMEI is not blocked/stolen. my next "normal" course of action would be to update the software, its running 4.5.0.81, unable to do that till a new usb port arrives in my mailbox.

Tried performing a wipe handheld, no success.

Any other ideas of things to test and see?

I would return the 8800 and get your money back. If you have these problems now, think of what could happen down the road. Is it really worth it?

I would, but basically it didn't cost me anything, it was $120 for the 8220, and the 8800 was thrown in free because of the broken usb port. so I'd like to get it going, i already have a new usb port on its way here, Ive repaired them before for that problem, but not sure what could cause the other.
