Default Cannot use gchat via Wifi !!! :(

Hi everybody, i hope someone out there can help me with my problem, i just got a new BB 8900 (Unlocked/tmobile) from a relative in the US. i have not yet signed up with the local provider for blackberry service, but i was playin around with it via wifi, and it connected to my router and i can use the BB Browser to surf the web and all, but when i connect to gChat, it says data service unavailable?!

can anyone please help! really lookin forward to some helpful tips tht will eventually help solve my problem!

You can surf the web using wi-fi without a blackberry data plan, but most applications require a blackberry data plan.

yes, but the person i got it from also has an 8900, and they said it works via wifi, and he also called TMO Blackberry dept., and they said it should work....

should i do an firmware update?!

you NEED a blackberry data plan and then it will use wi-fi.

Blackberry Data Plan > Gchat [Enabled through the BIS] > Wi-Fi (Gchat can then travel through the Wi-Fi connection)

Gchat is Enabled/Useable only with a Blackberry Data Plan, once enabled, you can use your Wi-Fi connection to boost (or use without an network connection) your applications.
A little more clarity, though I don't see how I can make it much more clear than Midnight did, but i tried.
