Question Wifi without data plan

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
I just inherited a curve 8350i (I think) from a friend and am using it without a data plan. To limit things even more the mini usb port is broken so I'm charging it via a dock and am transferring files via the sd card.

I was wondering if it is possible to use apps such as facebook and gmail and/or browse the web when connected to a wireless network. To the best of my knowledge the wifi works and it displays my home network name and my school network name automatically when I'm in range.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Moved to a more appropriate section.

To use any RIM related app such as email, BBM, the BB browser, Facebook, etc. you need a BB data plan and the proper service books. Once you have the service books, you will be able to access via WiFi as well as via the data plan.

And AFAIK, an 8350 doesn't work on T-Mobile since it is an iDen device and must use that network. It really helps to know which model you have.

Without a data plan, you should be able to use the BB browser still. You could browse the web that way. But as mentioned by Dubdub, you won't be able to use the RIM related apps.

Can't use the BB Browser either. Have to have the service book to get it. Can use the hotspot browser and/or install Opera Mini.

Wirelessly posted (L'neuf trois)

My information might be a bit dated but when I first bought my BB, I did not have a data plan. The wifi service book was already pushed to my device and I was able to use the BB browser to browse. That's how I was also able to download some non-RIM apps even though I did not have a data plan (generic or BIS).

Carriers caught up with that trick. No data plan no data
