Re: Now that the Verizon iphone is out
I am still under contract for a while with my Storm 2 and to be honest the iPhones at my office really are not that much better in most areas and rotten in one. My Storm 2 will work almost anywhere in the Galleria in Houston but the GSM phones have trouble in quite a few spots.
My view, and I shared it with my son who works at an Apple Store, is that it is better to wait until the LTE phones start to arrive as both RIM and Apple may have a lot better offering at that point. Right now I think that people who buy the iPhone will be unhappy around this time next year after the next generation phones arrive as they will be stuck with another year of contract. My son agreed with me. At this point I am not interested in the Android phones as the battery life can make the phone useless for me.
I don't think that Verizon will suffer as much as some of the at&t types have predicted as the network has been absorbing quite a few Androids which are bandwidth hogs.
In any event it costs nothing to wait and you might end up saving some money.

Re: Now that the Verizon iphone is out
I'm going to switch. My AT&T iPhone has been fine for data on WiFi but I can't make a friggin phone call half the time I need to.
Verizon has much better coverage in my area and I am going to LOVE the WiFi hotspot service without the need for jailbreaking.

Re: Now that the Verizon iphone is out
I sympathize with Penguin on the AT&T signal. In my house it really sucks. I had an iPhone given to me and paid for by a client, but after a year of fighting, I went back to the BB. Now that the iPhone is on VZW, where I have great coverage int he house, even in the basement, maybe I will take one for a test drive.
I have a VZW cell phone and a MiFi for data. Could probably trade both of those for the iPhone, since it has a WiFi hotspot built in. Wonder if they are going to add on another data plan for the hotspot over and above the iPhone data?

It's Verizon... you can almost guarantee they'll charge extra for it.

Re: Now that the Verizon iphone is out
you would of thought they would of used a lte/cdma phone kinda depressing they only stuffed a cdma antenna in it.
i'll wait for verizon to get iphone5 with lte, but i really think nvidia is going to kill apple with dual core tegra's and better chips by then.
so i'll probably stay with android and widgets and root access

I am going to stay with the Evo on Sprint for now as well.
Interesting take on this:

Re: Now that the Verizon iphone is out
Article in today's New York Times said Apple controlled the hardware decision.
A US only iPhone without the ability to talk and surf at the same time. No thanks.

It's gonna be an interesting time around the iPhone forums when the Verizon iPhone finally gets released. Not that I want it to fail but I've talked to enough people at work to know that expectations are pretty high on Verizon. Wait till a lot of people realize that multitasking while using the phone isn't possible...

This will be offset by the fact the the VZW phone will likely work in places that the at&t phone does not. I have lived without being able to talk and do data at the same time on my cellphone and it has not killed me. Besides all this will be forgotten when the LTE phones come out.

True but definately a nice feature to have.To be honest I ever rarely use the ability to talk and check messages, browse, or other things at the same time but when needed it is definately a time saver. Verizon will definately have a better advantage when verizon releases a LTE capable iPhone.
It is great to have options if needed. I even look forward to the competition between AT&T and Verizon and the many benefits to it's customers (sales, discounts, etc.).

Re: Now that the Verizon iphone is out
As as side note I got a call from Verizon today telling me that two of our phones were up for renewal and that they had the iPhone. This is the first time Verizon has called me to renew/replace a phone. Normally I get a mailer.
I wonder if Verizon gave some cash up front to Apple and they are trying to get it back as soon as possible.

i think they pick random customers, i know i some times got a call other times i didnt when i had verizon and they introduced new products, or even calling plans.
att never did, but i dont think i was with them long enough to find out.
but i know verizon will contact customers, and "lower" bill or introduce new products with that "lower" bill option i think last time they contacted me was back in 05-06.
