I've received an email and text from VZ Wireless asking me to update my Curve to OS 6. I tried to do it directly on my handheld, but it searches endlessly for the update. Im in a bad reception area, but using wifi. Not sure if wifi can be used for this, so i tried by going to blackberry's site and downloaded the updater app. As I was about to load the update, the area to check "backup data" is grayed out. If I download the update, am i gonna lose my contacts, apps, etc.? I can't use the backup assistant, as you can't do that over wifi and again, im in a bad reception area. Thanks.

Some advice if I may. If your BB is working well and as you want and need, then it probably isn't broken and doesn't need to be fixed with an OS update.

Read through the 9300 section (and others too) and see the issues with various early adopter OS upgrades.

Just my 2 cents, especially if you are new to the BB.

thanks...the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra was in my head, but so was "the grass is greener...". I'll listen to you and my gut and leave well enough alone. Thanks again.
