This morning I downloaded and ran the install routine for v6.0.0.668 to my PC's desktop as per the sticky above. I followed the simple directions and while everything seemed to run according to plan, it was over far too quickly.

In the end, all it did was show me the apps that were installed (I removed Facebook and Podcast). It took less than a couple of minutes to complete. The device rebooted and when I checked, it was still at 5.0.0.862.

Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated.

After you downloaded the OS to the computer, did you install it to the computer?
Did you search for and delete ALL the vendor.xml files on the computer?

Not all Vendor.XML files, only the one you're supposed to delete.

No where in the instructions does it say delete ALL vendor.XML files. I saw your instructions to someone else and that seemed to result in their Blackberry Desktop Manager app ceasing to function.

That would be incorrect. Deleting Vendor.xml does not result in BDM stop working.

Reread the instructions again and please locate and delete all versions of Vendor.XML.

Here are the instructions related to the vendor.xml that are currently posted in the sticky. The instructions are simple and clear:

2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!

Can you please explain why you would need to delete other similarly named files from other folders?

Because if you DON'T delete them, you will not be able to update your BlackBerry with software that was not released by your carrier.

There is absolutely no negative impact on deleting Vendor.XML - all copies - from your PC.

Understood. I'm just cautious because in the many years that I've been updating the OS on the various devices I've owned, I've never deleted any vendor.xml other than the one mentioned in the instructions.
